Senior Garden
Shelby County Park and Recreation Authority (SCPARA) is pleased to announce that Mary Ellen Estes Senior Community Center at Heardmont Park has received a grant from Shelby County Senior Programs to design and construct raised garden beds with irrigation near the back patio of the Center.
Seniors and Volunteers will be involved in seasonal planting and maintenance of the vegetable and flower beds. The goal is to improve physical functioning, increase dietary intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and educate seniors on a variety of healthy food options, recipes, and the like.
Several seniors have applied to attend the Fall Master Gardeners classes in Shelby County beginning in August. This area will include an outdoor yoga pavilion and restrooms. For more information call or e-mail the Senior Center.

Generation Celebration
2023
Generation Celebration due to inclement weather was held Monday, March 20 from 2:00-6:00 pm. Seniors enjoyed a meal and dessert from a Food Truck of their choice. Music was provided by Haleigh Black and Davis Little courtesy of UAB Art in Medicine. Information, Resources, Children's activities including games, face painting, moonwalks and much more. Over 220 North Shelby residents enjoyed the event and beautiful weather. Special thanks to the North Shelby Fire Department, Hand n Paw and the Alabama Wildlife Center. Generation Celebration was sponsored by North Shelby Library and Shelby County Park and Recreation.
2022
Mary Ellen Estes Senior Community Center and the North Shelby Library collaborated to present the inaugural Generation Celebration (Gen C) at Heardmont Park June 1, 2022. Over 770 guests registered but many others registered early or a parent/grandparent would complete one registration for the family. Over 30 vendors shared information and services available in North Shelby County. Ten volunteers from Heardmont senior center staffed the event along with volunteers from the North Shelby Library.
