The Mary Ellen Estes Senior Community Center at Heardmont Park is proud to offer a new garden space featuring raised garden beds with an integrated irrigation system, located near the Center's back patio. This project was made possible by a generous grant from Shelby County Senior Programs.
Seniors and volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in seasonal planting and garden upkeep, cultivating both vegetables and flowers. The initiative aims to promote physical wellness, encourage healthy eating through increased access to fresh produce, and provide educational resources on nutrition.
The garden area also features an outdoor yoga pavilion and restroom facilities, creating a welcoming space for relaxation, wellness, and community connection.
Our Master Gardener Lead & Volunteer Coordinator is a Master Gardener, ACES certified. She plans, organizes, and oversees various gardening projects and related programs with the gardens immediately behind the Senior Community Center at Heardmont Park.
Please email Madeline Harris at mharris@scpara.com and copy Misty Snow at msnow@scpara.com if you are interested in volunteering and assisting with the gardens and related projects. Volunteers can be certified Master Gardeners or interested gardeners from surrounding communities.
